Projects Overview

These projects came out of work done at FIMW '06.  At that workshop two dialogue sessions were held. 

The first session titled "Improving the Electronic Submission Process" broke the discussion into sub-topics:

• The existing electronic submission process
• Professional accountability and data integrity
• Data
• Future implementation/evolution of electronic submissions
• Brainstorm

Some general observations were made:

• Overall satisfaction with the concept of electronic submission
• Vast majority of discussion was provided in a positive light and aimed at improvement or building upon existing practices
• Industry today is better equipped and more motivated to actively participate in business streamlining initiatives
• Government is demonstrating a willingness to engage industry in streamlining information exchange and improving business practices for mutual benefit
• Both industry and government seem to recognize that positive interaction with each other in the area of information management and the application of technology is critical to the application of modern, efficient business practices

The second dialogue session looked at "Identifying Value and Opportunities in Data Sharing".  Some of the observations made were:

• Participants were very interested in the concept of data sharing
• Almost unanimous agreement of the potential value to both industry and government but with many reservations about details
• Keen interest in understanding potential roles, responsibilities and impact
• Clearly requires both industry and government to work close together to develop this concept with a focus on business benefit rather than technology or data
  

Both discussions were ambitious and as wide ranging of course, however six significant "themes" were identified in the output material.  These themes formed the basis for six "projects" assigned to 6 teams made up from industry and government. 

Each team has a mandate to re-work the general "theme" into a project or projects with objectives, action items and some notion of the value that would be achieved in the course of the project.
